Writing exercise:
Each person presents a premise, hopefully somewhat more specific than Boy Meets/Loses/Gets Girl.
Each person develops plots based on the other people's premises.
Reviewing how we each take a premise in different directions, we see the process
through the eyes of others, and perhaps develop a more flexible approach to our writing.
To start, let me toss out these ideas:
Circa 2000 NYC:
Young man stumbles across a drug deal gone sour, finds himself up with lots of money and bad guys in pursuit.
Circa 1880 Midwest:
Twelve-year-old girl takes over running a household with her mother dies.
Circa 1700 New England:
Young Irish gentry moves to American wilderness, carves out a place among the Indians.
Circa 1100 England:
Younger son is given as hostage to assure his father's political loyalty.
