Hudson Valley Writers

Linking Local Literati

So far I have engaged MySpace as a site to network with authors, readers and others. They have music pages, comedy pages and more, but not authors/writers page option. I have written to suggest it.

Does anyone use one of the other social networking sites with the ability to create an author/writer page similar to the concept to the myspace music profile page?

If there are any myspacers…

Thanks guys. I will look into them. I did mySpace for the first novel. Maybe I will do Facebook for my second.

Thanks again.

I'm with Steve on this -- I almost never visit the garish world of MySpace anymore (although I still have a page there and first "met" you there, Ray). I find Facebook much more like real interpersonal communication, which to me means the potential for book-marketing with actual results is probably greater, although I'm not really doing that (yet). And Goodreads seems to be working for some authors -- one of my "friends" there has 334 other and promotes his book aggressively.

Ray,

I've looked into both MySpace and Facebook, and so far I've found a LOT more to recommend the latter. Not even close for me. (Your mileage may vary, of course.) You don't have quite as much power over the appearance of your page, and there's still no official way to identify yourself specifically as a writer, but there are many writing-related applications on FB, and I don't think it would take long to establish an identity. (You will, on the other hand, find yourself wasting way too much time there.)

To better answer your specific question, though, the GoodReads site is a growing community of readers which, after you've joined it, will give you the option of identifying yourself as an author. (Steve on GoodReads)

Imagine, a real online community of people who still read books! Give it a try!

Hope that helps...
